This house was built in 1918 with native woods from southern Chile —alerce, mañío, oak and laurel— by Karl Von Bischoffshausen and Amalie Rotter, who first set up a general store here that sold everything.
Goods arrived from Puerto Montt by cart to Puerto Varas, and then by steamboats that sailed Lake Llanquihue to Frutillar. This house was a direct witness to the growth of the town.

A legacy that continues
A history that's still alive
Frutillar keeps in its streets, houses and landscapes the memory of those who arrived on these lands to begin a new story. Von Bischoffshausen is part of that legacy.
Today, the family's fourth generation cares for this house. What were once the bedrooms of Karl and Amalie's eight children are now our guesthouse.
And on its ground floor, you are the ones enjoying that past turned into present.
